Common questions
What is Medical Weight Loss?
Medical weight loss is a specialized, medically guided approach to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Unlike traditional dieting methods, medical weight loss services are tailored to the individual’s unique needs, considering factors such as metabolism, medical history, and lifestyle. These services often include a combination of dietary guidance, exercise planning, behavioral support, and, when appropriate, GLP-1 medications or other medical interventions to support safe and effective weight management.
What is a GLP-1 Medication?
GLP-1 stands for Glucagon-Like Peptide-1, which is a naturally occurring hormone in the body that helps regulate appetite and fullness. While names like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro are frequently seen in the media, GLP-1 is not the name of a medication— it refers to the hormone these medications are designed to mimic.
GLP-1 medications are not a shortcut for weight loss, but rather a medically guided tool that may support individuals as part of a comprehensive weight loss plan. Determining whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate involves a thorough medical evaluation to ensure it is safe, effective, and aligned with each individual’s health history and goals.
What are the benefits of medical weight loss services?
Medical weight loss services focus on long-term health, safety, and sustainability rather than quick fixes or fad diets. This approach emphasizes gradual, steady progress through a personalized plan that is medically guided and tailored to each individual’s unique needs.
One of the key benefits is ongoing medical oversight. Our provider closely monitor progress to ensure strategies are effective and safe, making adjustments as needed. Medical weight loss can also help identify and address underlying factors that contribute to weight gain— such as hormonal imbalances, metabolic conditions, or psychological influences— allowing for a more comprehensive, person-centered approach to improved health and lasting weight management.
How Does the Medical Weight Loss Process Work?
The medical weight loss process follows a structured, medically guided approach designed to support safe, effective, and sustainable weight management. Here's what you can expect:
Initial consultation: An assessment with a medical professional to discuss your health history, weight loss goals, and an underlying health conditions.
Personalized plan: Based on the initial consultation, a customized weight loss plan is created, which may include FDA-approved medications, hormone therapies, vitamin supplements, diet, exercise, or behavior modifications.
Regular monitoring: Progress is regularly monitored through follow up appointments, where adjustments to the plan are made as needed.
Support and education: Programs often provide education on nutrition and physical activity, as well as psychological support to help change lifestyle habits.
Do You Accept Insurance for Consultations?
We accept most insurance plans; however, acceptance does not guarantee coverage. Benefits are determined by your insurance provider. Self pay options are available.
